Can You Hire an Interior Decorator Remotely?
/How eDesign Helped Launch Everwell Dental Hygiene Clinic
One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "Can you really hire an interior decorator remotely?" My answer is an absolute yes!
My virtual design process connects me with clients no matter where they are. It’s about using technology and clear communication to craft highly functional and personalized spaces, entirely online. A standout example of this is the transformation of the Everwell Dental Hygiene Clinic in New Minas, Nova Scotia.
This project wasn't simply about decorating a commercial space—it was about helping launch a brand-new business. Collaborating with brand identity creative Maeghan Carty to perfectly align our interior decor choices with the overall branding design aesthetic was a win-win for an overall cohesive end result.
Watch the video below to hear clinic owner Jenna Gabourie share her experience working together through the eDesign process.
A note of explanation is the reception focal wall will hold the new logo that wasn’t ready at that time.
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Everwell Dental Hygiene Clinic in Nova Scotia. When independent dental hygienist Jenna Gabourie decided to open her own practice, she wanted something different from the traditional dental experience. You'll see how our eDesign process helped transform an empty commercial space into a welcoming environment that reflects her values and supports her growing business.
More Than Designing a Space—Helping Launch a Dream
After years of working in established practices providing dental hygiene care, Jenna made the exciting decision to open a clinic of her very own.
She had a clear vision for what she wanted to create and the kind of experience she wanted for her patients, but transforming an empty commercial space into a welcoming, fully functioning healthcare practice felt pretty overwhelming.
As a small business owner myself, I understood that every decision mattered. The clinic wouldn't just reflect Jenna's personal style—it would become an extension of her brand and that very important first impression every patient would have of her business.
My goal was to eliminate uncertainty by designing a comprehensive plan that balances the daily demanding healthcare workflow with a calm, welcoming environment.
Designing From the Brand Outward
The goal of great design is all about looking at the big picture and making things cohesive across the board.
It was my great pleasure to have some “Carty collaboration” happening on this project. I handled the interior design and decor while creative direction by Maeghan Carty Designs managed everything from branding to web and graphic design. This team effort ensured the exact look, feel, and colours of the physical space perfectly matched the company's public identity.
Rather than treating the website and interior as separate identities I was able to incorporate Maeghan’s visual language with my expertise and vision to influence many of the design decisions throughout the clinic.
Jenna’s wish-list was the perfect opportunity to suggest we bring soft, nature-inspired colours, warm wood tones, natural textures, greenery, and clean lines to the over all project. We had created a seamless experience for the patient's first visit to the website, right through to their first appointment to the clinic itself. We have a clinic that truly feels like the physical expression of the Everwell brand.
How My eDesign Process Works
Starting the same way as an in-person Design Consultation, it begins with good listening. A complimentary, short video call - typically 15 to 20 minutes - is the “digital handshake” if you will, that let’s us meet face-to-face and get a feel for each other. I’ll collect project location and client contact information, and a brief overview of the project.
Before we end the call, the date and time for the Design Consultation is booked. A follow-up email is sent with links that further describe the process, my “Things You Should Know” document, how to confirm the booking and in general helps to manage expectations.
The Design Consultation
Before selecting a single paint colour or piece of furniture, I take the time to understand my client's vision, goals, priorities, budget, and how they want the space to function. I’ve outlined how it works below.
Pre-consult questionnaire review
Walkthrough assessment of the space on client’s device
What’s working and what’s not
What has to stay and what can go
Re-design/re-purpose solutions
Ideas for paint colours, artwork, accessories, lighting, etc.
Floor/space plan
Instructions on sending images and any inspo boards
What You Walk Away With:

Suggestions for moving forward
The Space Before The Design
The only before images of the clinic that I have. Jenna sent this quick walkthrough.
The Everwell project was no different. Working together remotely, we shared and reviewed photographs, measurements, floor plans, and Jenna's wish list. From there, I developed space plans, furniture layouts, finish selections, colour palettes, sourcing recommendations, and realistic visual mockups that allowed her to see the design before making purchasing decisions.
We stayed connected through lots of text messages, emails, phone calls, and Zoom meetings throughout the project. Step by step we refined the design together until every detail felt right.
Professional Support Beyond the Design
There are so many advantages of working with an experienced professional. Although Jenna’s project was provinces away from me, I really wanted her to get the same service excellence my local clients enjoy.
I was able to contact my Atlantic Canada Sherwin-Williams representative, to arrange for Jenna to have access to my Sherwin-Williams trade account giving her my designer pricing on the specified products. The recommended store was just the next town away from her.
That might seem like a small detail, but it’s one that made a meaningful, cost-saving difference and demonstrates that eDesign is about much more than creating a beautiful plan. Choosing continued services allows for client support throughout the entire process, ensuring they make confident decisions every step of the way.
The Finished Result
We started with an uninteresting, empty commercial space and ended with a beautiful clinic that reflects Jenna herself.
Our choices of natural materials, the calming palette colours, well thought out furnishing selections, and efficient space planning all worked together to create this amazing environment where patients immediately feel at ease and cared for.
“As someone who fears going to the dentist, I’ve avoided going for the past 9 years...after attending my first appointment at Everwell it completely rewrote the narrative for me! What a beautiful clinic, it felt like visiting a spa!...”
