Fall Interior Decor

Here are my best fall interior decor tips to help you transform your home into a cozy little haven that embraces the spirit of this beautiful season. From tabletops to entryways, I’ll show you how to add layered textures and warm colour palettes that bring elegant touches of the season throughout your home.

Enchanting Entryways

First impressions really do matter, and your entryway sets the tone for your entire home. Make yours welcoming with these quick tips:

  • place a decorative bench near the entrance for guests to take off shoes or simply pause and take in the beauty of your decor

  • decorate it with a couple of plush fall inspired cushions (Amazon has some great choices that are pretty and inexpensive)

  • hang some fall wreaths made from dried leaves, twigs, burlap, small pumpkin accents, pinecones…

  • add an entry console table if you have the room - the perfect canvas for creating fall vignettes of harvest-inspired decorations, pumpkin accents, framed seasonal quotes or seasonal wall art hung above

Living Room Fall Decor Ideas

Start with a point of the room – the mantel or coffee table – where you can arrange an assortment of decorative pumpkins, gourds, and dried corn husks. These natural elements are all about the spirit of the harvest but also introduce a rustic charm that instantly transforms your space from summer to fall.

Introduce soft textiles that invite relaxation and comfort with throw blankets and cushions. Swap out lightweight summer throws with plush, textured blankets in warm fall hues. Drape these over sofas and armchairs to create an inviting atmosphere that encourages you to curl up with a book or a cup of spiced cider.

Next, change up your throw pillow covers for autumnal patterns such as plaid, herringbone, leaf motifs, or fall word art. Add in textures like faux fur, knits, and woven pattern for a “wrapped in a soft hug” feeling. These small touches can make a big difference in how your living room feels during this season.

Fall Coffee Table Ideas

A fall interior decor treatment to transform your coffee table into a captivating fall focal point involves a a bit of thought and curation know how. Start with your base piece, like a weathered wood or galvanized tray that will corral your fall-themed decor, keeping the arrangement tidy and cohesive, while adding a touch of texture.

Next, choose a mix of decorative items that celebrate the beauty of autumn. You could start with a cluster of miniature pumpkins in various sizes and colours, arranged asymmetrically on one side of the tray. On the opposite side, place a tall, slender vase filled with dried twigs, branches, and even a few delicate strands of fairy lights to add some height and a touch of whimsy.

I like to work with a stack of hardcover books or magazines when styling coffee tables. Look for used books with warm toned covers in your palette colours. They’re fun to search for under the dust jackets and are a great way to add varying height to arrangements.

On top of the books, position a scented fall candle in a complementary colour, for a cozy atmosphere. Complete the grouping with a few strategically placed accessories like a small ceramic owl or a brass figurine, bringing a hint of whimsy in the autumn theme.

Lastly, lay in natural textures through the use of textiles, acorns or pinecones around the tray, creating a sense of movement and a connection to the outdoors.

Inexpensive Tablescapes For Fall

Mealtime experiences are instantly elevated with thoughtful table settings that are the perfect showplace for your warm colour palette that celebrates the beauty of fall.

When it comes to creating a captivating fall tabletop, layered textures are key. Start with a rustic table runner that sets the foundation for your decor theme. Look for something in a warm, earthy tone like deep brown or muted orange.

Layer some textured round placemats or pretty metallic gold or bronze charger plates on top of the runner to give visual interest while adding dimension. Check out your local dollar store, Walmart, Stokes or IKEA for some inexpensive seagrass, or woven options.

Dollar store charger plates come in a variety of colours that will take you through to Christmas. Be sure they co ordinate with your dish ware for a pulled together look. Classic white dinner plates on top of the chargers creates a clean and timeless look.

Layer in some napkins in warm, textured fabrics, and tie them with a little natural twine or pretty ribbon in your chosen fall colours. Add a sprig of berries and you’re good to go.

For a lovely personal touch, try some handwritten place cards at each setting for another warm and inviting welcome to your guests.

Fall inspired centrepieces are a sure way to capture the fall interior decor theme. You can’t go wrong with a rustic wooden tray filled with pinecones, pumpkins, scented candles, and candle holders you can make yourself.

Try taper candles poked into small pumpkins for a fun DIY autumn decor project. Repeat a group of 5 or 7 set amongst some leaf garland down the length of your dining table for a simple, elegant look. You can find free table accessories on a nature walk where you can gather acorns, pretty leaves and branches. Adding these natural elements creates some beautiful rustic fall decor.

Decorating With Candles and Candle Holders

Candles are the ultimate fall decor accessory, casting a warm and inviting glow that instantly adds ambiance to any space. Creating warm lighting schemes is easy with candles. They come in so many heights and sizes that are perfect for adding depth and drama to your fall decor. And who can resist the amazing aromas of pumpkin spice, vanilla, cranberry and so many more?

Switch out your existing candles for some pretty fall coloured tapers for an inexpensive refresh. Or keep what you have and tie a little twine or wired faux leaf to the candle holder for a quick fall touch.

Tabletops - coffee table, side tables, consoles etc - are the perfect spot for displaying your favourite fall decor items. Elegant candle holders or lanterns as part of these arrangements are a must have in my opinion. They come in so many styles from traditional to modern, you’ll easily find what suits your decor style to showcase those flickering flames that bring a touch of interest and wellbeing.

A collection of lanterns lit up with pretty candles lining your entryway creates a perfect warm welcome for your guests when entertaining. These can carry right through the Christmas season as well, making them a good decor accessory investment.

Remember to keep safety in mind and never leave candles unattended!

Kitchen Fall Decor Ideas

Bring the comfort of your fall interior decor into your kitchen by introducing simple touches like these.

Change out your kitchen towels for soft, textured fabrics in shades of burnt orange, deep red, mustard yellow, smokey green or colours of your chosen fall colour palette. Drape them over the oven door handle or fold and drape over the edge of your sink for easy access and a nice pop of seasonal colour.

Be sure to add a touch of warmth and fragrance by filling glass jars with fall-inspired spices like cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and nutmeg. Not only do they add wonderful fall aromas, they’re so pretty to look at.

The kitchen is another place to add some scented candles for those same yummy smells while creating a comforting feel.

Quick Tips:

  • use your cake stands to display small pumpkins

  • add some garland to your window frame

  • add a statement piece on your kitchen island

  • it can be as grand as a large floral arrangement in a rustic pottery jug or as simple as a basket of pears or polished, red apples

  • set out your fall motif salad and serving plates

Fall Artwork Home Decor

Changing up your artwork is a simple way of transitioning from summer to fall decor. Choose pieces that capture the heart of the season. Think warm, cozy landscapes, botanical prints of fall foliage, or abstract art in deep, earthy tones.

Complement your seasonal wall art with frames that reflect the warm light of fall, while creating a harmonious atmosphere in your space. Choosing metallic finishes like bronze or gold can add a bit of luxury and sophistication.

Word art, as mentioned earlier, is another fall art form that’s more relaxed and whimsical. These fun pieces can also add a nice touch to a farmhouse, rustic or less traditional decor style.

Fall Floral Arrangements

When it comes to fall floral arrangements, it’s all about embracing the rustic and earthy tones that define autumn interior design.

Think deep burgundies, burnt oranges, golden yellows and rich browns. These colours combined in textured nature elements like dried wheat, twigs, miniature pumpkins, fresh dahlias, chrysanthemums and sunflowers can create stunning arrangements. These types of fall inspired centrepieces bring a touch of nature’s tranquility while celebrating the rich warm colour palettes of autumn.

You can often add to your existing arrangements by simply tucking in some maple or oak leaves. Play with heights and proportions of branches or leaves added to eucalyptus in a pretty wooden crate or vintage vase. Add some pinecones and acorns too.

These all work well on the dining table of course, but don’t forget to include your fireplace mantle decor, and place some smaller arrangements on side tables, windowsills and the entry table vingette.

Fall floral arrangements will blend seamlessly with any design theme. There are some very tasteful faux stems available at the dollar store and the all time favourite Michael’s. These will keep for years to come and are easy to switch up when you want a little change.
